LBYD was founded in 1973 with the incorporation of E. Glenn Bishop & Associates. In 1978, with the merger of the structural engineering firm Lane & Hodnett Structural Engineers, the firm became Lane/Bishop/Hodnett, Inc. In 1987, the firm became LaneBishopYorkDelahay Inc., which is known today as LBYD Engineers. In 2001, LBYD began offering civil engineering services. With the addition of the civil department and the continued commitment of our structural department, LBYD has experienced growth at a phenomenal rate. POSITION PURPOSE:

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) is expected to gain exposure and training in executing project management responsibilities. The Assistant Project Manager’s assignments will vary from specific project responsibilities to managing projects with growing complexity. As the APM grows in experience, he/she may be called upon to assume full Project Management responsibilities for a project within their experience capabilities. Assignments will be made based on consideration of project type, size, appropriateness, and overall project management workload.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs work involving the application of all conventional aspects of civil engineering to the functional area of the assignment.
  • Exercises judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Conceptualizes the initial engineering design approach for major phases of projects or has production management responsibility for the civil engineering work on a project of limited scope.
  • Resolves a variety of complex issues, (i.e. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements).
  • Learning to manage the design and administration process including scheduling work, coordinating design assignments, preparation of proposals, preparation and production of plans and specifications, review of proposal and construction information requests, project budgeting and invoicing and project related client management.
  • Learning to supervise the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project
  • Training less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel
  • Serving as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams.
  • Participates in contract proposals and administration; periodically observes and reports on project construction.
  • Takes initiative in leading design tasks

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May be required present at public hearings
  • May be required to travel periodically to project meetings and construction sites. Typically, day trips or overnight trips, however occasionally longer trips are necessary.
  • Performs other duties assigned by a Principal or Project Manager.
  • Work alongside functional departments to fulfill corporate needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in site development or related field

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to delegate tasks to others
  • Ability to design all components of a project
  • Aptitude to lead others in design of a project and ensure project completeness
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage use of time both personally and other team members
  • Strong verbal communications and technical writing skills
  • Proven ability to communicate with internal and external project team members, various stakeholders including clients, jurisdictional and utility authorities, and members of the community.
  • Ability to prepare calculations and reports that clearly express project requirements
  • Proficient with civil design software including AutoCAD, Civil3D and stormwater design programs (Has the ability to verify other’s work within the appropriate design software)
  • Ability to prepare a complete set of plans and an increasing ability to manage and supervise the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with municipal officials, and other outside agencies.
  • Ability to prepare design calculations and design documents (plans and specifications)
  • Proficient using spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software
  • Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce and assemble a complete project and has experience with a variety of size, scope, and type of projects.
  • Ability in effectively delegating tasks, assigning duties, monitoring progress, and assuming responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of work performed by other engineers.

Special Requirements:

  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam
  • Proven success as a Project Engineer

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body, involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work generally conducted indoors in an office setting with occasional travel to project sites, but may serve as a Field Engineer during construction.
