POSITION PURPOSE:

Journeyman Electrician – Advanced electrical installation, troubleshooting, construction and maintenance skills; thorough knowledge of electrical codes, and safe use of power tools and trade hand tools; specification review and analysis, submittals; take offs; obtaining quotes from suppliers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, maintain, modify, and repair all electrical distribution systems and associated electrical equipment.
  • Remain in compliance with current National Electrical Code
  • Inspect and test components of electrical systems, low voltage electrical systems and components to include electrical panels, conduit, wiring, and fixtures.
  • Complete work orders and record material utilized on jobs.
  • Utilize project drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer’s installation manuals to complete assigned projects.
  • Survey electrical systems, circuits, and plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work professionally and courteously with all levels of personnel.


Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Must hold a valid State Electrical Journeyman’s license.
  • Four (4) years of experience with integrated systems, as well as experience in installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical systems.
  • Experience in controls and special systems to include fire alarm is preferred.
  • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.


Skills and Abilities:

  • Communicates clearly and concisely in speech and writing. Demonstrates understanding of and sensitivity to unspoken meaning and nonverbal cues. Facilitates communication across the organization and effectively interfaces with customer, contractor, and site personnel daily.
  • Good organizational and follow-up skills and be detailed oriented. Must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Must be able to work in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years as a Journeyman Electrician on commercial construction projects
  • Experience with government projects is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Medium physical workload.
  • Employee must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading. Also required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Specific physical requirements include, but are not limited to, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Maintain equilibrium to prevent falling when moving, walking, standing, kneeling, or crouching – particularly on narrow, uneven, irregular, slippery surfaces, going up or down ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps poles or other objects using hands, arms, feet or legs.
  • The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, noise sufficient to cause the worker to shout. The worker is subject to a variety of physical conditions, proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electric current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions – fumes, odors, dusts, mist, gases, or poor ventilation.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Most of the work is conducted indoors in a standard office environment. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can escalate based on the project location.
