POSITION PURPOSE:

The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for project and site safety by implementing and enforcing the applicable safety standards, established and approved project Accident Prevention / Site Safety and Health Plans, and North Wind Safety Program policies. The SSHO will perform the following: Exercise authority to stop work for conditions adverse to quality or safety; Ensure safe conditions exist at the job site; conduct daily and periodic safety meetings with project staff, serve as a competent safety person, Ensure equipment and other project resources are in working order and to comply with the APP and associated activity hazard analyses (AHA)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements the company’s health and safety program; conducts and/or participates in associated training, safety meetings and inspections.
  • Supervision of all field activities, in-house and subcontract laborers, and coordinating site logistics.
  • Implements site safety and emergency plans.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors in timely development of activity hazard analysis and control measures for scopes.
  • Daily Safety inspections and reporting of inspections.
  • Prepares daily reports, job diaries, narratives, and all other documentation as determined by the company and by the project needs.
  • Enforces all regulatory, base and company specific safety rules.
  • Communicates and supports a proactive culture of Safety.
  • Routinely assess work activities to ensure tasks are performed in accordance with the requirements detailed in the Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA), project specification and Health and Safety Plan (HSP).
  • Ensure equipment is inspected, meets HSP safety requirements and is adequate to meet the intended function for the project.
  • Authority to stop work for conditions adverse to quality or safety.
  • Provide day-to-day technical overview of on-site project activities.
  • Ensure project field activities are performed safely to execute work in accordance with the HSP, work scope, and schedule, AHA’s.
  • Ensure equipment and other project resources are in working order and comply with the HSP; implementation of the HSP.
  • Performs other duties as are appropriate and as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related educational background is preferred
  • Possess at least five (5) years’ experience in the role of a site safety health officer on government projects. DOE project experience preferred, however USACE/DOD is acceptable.
  • In addition, applicant must demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years of continuous safety related roles in increasing size and complexity.
  • A combination of experience and education that demonstrates the required skills, knowledge, and abilities will be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately, follow procedures and schedules, and prioritize multiple tasks

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, Project).
  • Ability to work in a team environment and fit in with company culture and processes.
  • Effective professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic, Strong organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Civil, Structural Steel Erection, Electrical, and Mechanical experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Procore

Special Requirements:

  • Must pass pre-employment background check
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening
  • Ability to obtain a National Energy Technology Laboratory security badge.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position is primarily sedentary in nature. The work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. The work may involve exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Works mainly in the field on active construction site that utilizes heavy machinery and various construction equipment to erect a multistory industrial building.
