POSITION PURPOSE:

The Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) will serve on various USACE, DoD, Air Force construction project located in but not limited to the Western Region of the United States, primarily in Las Vegas, Nevada. The SSHO is responsible for ensuring project personnel are sufficiently trained and qualified to execute assigned tasks and for assessing and reporting progress to the Project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements the company’s health and safety program; conducts and/or participates in associated training, safety meetings and inspections.
  • Supervision of all field activities, in-house and subcontract laborers, and coordinating site logistics.
  • Implements site safety and emergency plans.
  • Observe and assist in compliance with subcontractors.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors in timely development of activity hazard analysis and control measures for scopes.
  • Daily Safety inspections and reporting of inspections.
  • Prepares daily reports, job diaries, narratives, and all other documentation as determined by the company and by the project needs.
  • Enforces all regulatory, base and company specific safety rules.
  • Communicates and supports a proactive culture of Safety.
  • Routinely assess work activities to ensure tasks are performed in accordance with the requirements detailed in the EM-385-1-1, project specification and Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
  • Ensure equipment is inspected, meets APP safety requirements and is adequate to meet the intended function for the project.
  • Authority to stop work for conditions adverse to quality or safety.
  • Provide day-to-day technical overview of on-site project activities.
  • Ensure project field activities are performed safely to execute work in accordance with the APP, work scope, and schedule Accident Hazard Analysis (AHA’s).
  • Ensure equipment and other project resources are in working order and comply with the APP; implementation of the APP.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs other duties as are appropriate and as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent
  • Possess at least five (5) years’ experience in the role of a site safety health officer on government projects. In addition, applicant must demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years of continuous safety related roles in increasing size and complexity
  • DoD-AF and/or USACE project experience required.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years construction experience
  • A combination of experience and education that demonstrates the required skills, knowledge, and abilities will be considered
  • Experience with Accident Hazard Analysis (AHA)
  • Working knowledge of EM 385-1-1
  • OSHA 30 hour
  • Proficient in USACE RMS (Resident Management System)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately, follow procedures and schedules, and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, Project).
  • Ability to work in a team environment and fit in with company culture and processes.
  • Effective professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic, strong organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Special Requirements:

  • CPR – First Aid certification.
  • Valid Driver’s License compliant with REAL ID ACT.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Must be local to Las Vegas, Nevada or be willing to relocate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related educational background is preferred.
  • Crane and Rigging Experience, Structural Steel Erection, Pile Installation preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Standard office environment.
  • Sedentary physical workload; must be able to exert up to a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; required to have a close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading; specific physical requirements include, but are not limited to, sitting, walking, talking, hearing and performing repetitive motions.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor working environment, Local and satellite offices supporting projects within multiple contracts. 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
