POSITION PURPOSE:


The Support Technician II is responsible for supporting risk assessment analyses for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), to determine homeowners flood insurance requirements. This position requires computer proficiency; the ability to read, use and interpret National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs). This work will predominantly require reviewing data submitted by property owners or other applicants requesting revisions or amendments to FIRMs, entering data into various systems, performing pre-acceptance reviews, and preparing written correspondence to applicants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize and review submitted data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Retrieve required reports and FEMA mapping exhibits from FEMA systems and resources.
  • Geo-locate properties within web-based processing tool.
  • Perform data entry into required systems.
  • Prepare written correspondence to applicants.
  • Respond to inquiries from applicants.
  • Participate in team production meetings.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in identifying process improvements to increase productivity and efficiency.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.


Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time wisely to complete daily assignments.
  • Ability to interpret FEMA forms and mapping products.
  • Relevant computer skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and Adobe software.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Geology, Environmental Studies or any other earth science field.
  • Experience using GIS software and tools.
  • NFIP background.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be sitting for long periods of time performing all work on a computer. The employee is required to use hands for data entry into web-based systems.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This is a remote position with the employee performing all work in their home office.
