POSITION PURPOSE:

The FSS Technician reports directly to the Closure Manager and has the authority and responsibility for the day-to-day implementation of the FSS Program and procedures involving soil sampling at the Moab and Crescent Junction project sites. The Technician coordinates with Operations to conduct soil sampling for verification that applicable release concentrations are met.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Obtain samples of soil in the field in compliance with procedures, package samples, assign bar codes and transport to analytical lab at Crescent Junction.
  • Use mobile GPS equipment to accurately determine sample location and precise location on site.
  • Ensure sufficient inventory of soil sampling equipment and supplies are maintained and available at both sites.
  • Order additional supplies as needed to meet anticipated sampling needs with a minimum 90-day inventory.
  • Maintain project training, including specific training on the FSS Program and implementing procedures.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successfully complete HAZWOPER training and obtain qualification within 180 days of hire.
  • Experience operating various vehicles, including offroad ATV/UTV-type vehicles.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently in compliance with explicit written procedures.
  • Ability to use hand tools safely to obtain soil samples.
  • Ability to work on uneven, outdoor working surfaces in all types of weather.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently implement written procedures with minimal direction or oversight.
  • Demonstrated experience with computer applications, including word processing and database functions.

Special Requirements:

  • Must pass pre-employment background check.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug testing.
  • Must have a valid driver license.
  • Ability to pass U.S. Government employment background check and acquire U.S. Government Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential card.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current 40 Hour HAZWOPER qualification is desired; training will be provided if not current.
  • Experience conducting soil samples.
  • Experience on radioactive construction/remediation sites using hand tools and personal protective clothing.
  • Experience using handheld GPS equipment to precisely find exact locations.

The employee is often required to use hands or fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to extreme outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is normally mild to moderate. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, machinery and vehicles.
