Title: Environmental Technician

This position is eligible for a Department of Defense SkillBridge Program Internship for active duty servicemembers transitioning out of the U.S. Military.

North Wind Site Services is focused on providing engineering, program management, environmental remediation services including investigation and characterization, environmental restoration, unexploded ordnance/military munitions response (MMRP), regulatory public involvement services, environmental compliance, logistics, and records and facility management.


Job Description

  • Inspect, handle, containerize, load/unload, and transport waste and materials
  • Inspect containers and collection areas for compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Operate light and heavy vehicles and equipment; trucks, forklifts, plows, pumps, etc.
  • Spill response, remediation, and clean-up activities
  • Sampling water, waste, and soil to determine characteristics and contamination
  • Performing periodic inspections at installation accumulation areas
  • General warehouse operations, labor, and housekeeping
  • Data entry and record keeping
  • Strict adherence to safety program requirements
  • Provide excellent customer service and client relations
  • Maintain a level of professionalism at all times
  • Abide by company drug-free policy including a prohibition on cannabis usage.
  • Accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision and adapt to changing priorities.


Qualifications

  • At least 1 year experience handling or managing RCRA regulated wastes required.
  • Possess or be able to obtain a 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification immediately upon employment.
  • Pass pre-employment background checks and drug screening for substances considered illicit at
    the federal level (including Cannabis and its derivatives).
  • Ability to pass a government background check for military installation access -
  • ability to pass an in-depth government background check for DOD CAC card access to DOD computer systems is
    strongly preferred.
  • General computer skills
  • Must have valid driver’s license; Alaska commercial driver’s license (A, B, or C) with Haz Mat
    endorsement preferred.
  • Experience operating a forklift
  • Experience operating material handling equipment typical of the industry (e.g, drum dollies,
    bottle carts, hand tools, etc.)
  • Ability to pass occupational and DOT physicals
  • Have a positive attitude, integrity, and strong work ethic
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job
  • Driver's License (Required)
  • CDL with Haz-Mat (Preferred)
  • 40 Hr. HAZWOPER (required upon job assignment; employer can assist
