Incorporated in 2011, North Wind Resource Consulting’s core capabilities include environmental documentation and permitting; natural and cultural resource surveys; wildlife and botanical expertise; National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) technical services; historic and prehistoric surveys; environmental consultation such as Section 106 for cultural resources, Section 404 for wetlands, and Section 7 for endangered species); and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping capabilities. North Wind Resource Consulting maintains offices across the country.


The Archaeologist Technician II is a position that will be providing in-field support for projects located across North Winds northern service area (WY, ND, SD, MT, ID, UT, OR, WA, and NV). The Archaeologist Technician II should have previous experience with Class III archaeological surveys, monitoring, or testing projects. Required experience will include artifact identification, in-field documentation, and site recording knowledge.


  • Assisting a higher-level Crew Chief or Field Director with survey documentation
  • Follow North Wind established field protocols
  • Possess experience in Great Basin and/or Plains archaeology
  • Assist with (a) collecting data using GPS units (i.e., Trimble, Garmin, and/or IOS Field Collector), (b) taking photographs of project area, project activities, and artifacts (c) artifact/feature identification
  • Collect artifact/feature descriptions
  • Maintain both North Wind and project-specific safety awareness and practices at all times
  • Regular communication with North Wind Project Manager, Field Director, and Line Supervisor
  • Participation in North Wind training

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or a closely related field and completion of an accredited field school.
  • Four (4) to six (6) years of related work experience in the field.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in shovel testing and performing pedestrian surveys under a variety of field conditions with experience recording prehistoric and historic period archaeological sites of varying complexity.
  • Ability to recognize and document pre-contact and historic period artifacts, features, and other cultural materials.
  • Candidates must have the ability to write detailed daily field notes, take photographs of artifacts and discoveries, and to map discovery locations as necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and operate GPS for navigation and mapping.
  • Ability to sketch artifacts to scale desired.

Special Requirements:

  • Must pass pre-employment background check.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug testing.
  • Must have a valid driver license.
  • Ability to pass U.S. Government employment background check and acquire U.S. Government Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential card.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain at least a DOE “L” clearance
  • Ability and willing to travel to various field locations, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, across rugged terrain
  • Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Willing to work irregular hours (e.g., early mornings, late nights, weekends)
  • Willing and ability to work in a dynamic setting, and to consistently enact high performance standards and a strong work and team ethic in support of the goals and objectives of North Wind’s commitment to gathering high quality in-field data.
  • Experience in and willingness to work in inclement conditions (i.e., very hot, windy, sunny without shade)
  • Must be able, by reason of experience, training, or both, to operate a 4-wheel high clearance North Wind vehicle (i.e., truck and/or jeep) to complete the work task(s)


  • Position will require extensive physical exertion, such as walking up to 10 hours a day at speeds of at least 3 mph over steep, uneven, heavily wooded, challenging terrain.
  • Ability to dig and excavate at least 1 cu meter per day.
  • Candidate must be able to carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Candidate must be able to lift a minimum of 60 pounds.
  • Candidate must be able to work in a variety of conditions such as hot or cold temperatures, rainy, snowy, or windy conditions.
  • Individual must be able to conduct these tasks while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment. This work will be performed in remote locations and may include camping.


  • Outdoors in varying and often inclement conditions (e.g., heat and cold; rain; etc.).
  • Potential contact with poisonous plants, insects, and animals.
